MG Motor India
Operations Uplift & Variant Launches
Market Conditions & Context (Feb 2024 - May 2024)
In early 2024, the Indian passenger vehicle market saw an influx of mid-life refreshes and variant updates. Competition was intense, and MG Motor India needed to deploy high-volume, multi-variant digital campaigns across social, search, and dealer networks. However, without centralized asset production workflows, local dealer content was highly fragmented, leading to delayed GTM timelines and inconsistent brand representation.
The Legacy "Before" State
Prior to the operations overhaul, MG India's regional digital presence was hindered by structural inefficiencies:
- • Fragmented Creative Quality: Local content creators and agency teams had no unified grid guidelines, color systems, or variant templates, resulting in varying visual aesthetics across regional channels.
- • Launch Delays: Creating variant-specific GTM assets (for Hector, Astor, Gloster, Comet EV) required manual, ad-hoc edits for each media size and dealer. The approval cycles frequently delayed launches by 7-10 days.
- • Lack of Governance: Review loops between brand managers, compliance officers, and creative agencies lacked structure, leading to version control issues.
Strategic Execution & Operations Overhaul
As a Consultant at Cheil X, I led a focused 3-month account uplift to standardize workflows and speed up the GTM pipeline:
1. Centralized Content Playbooks
Designed and structured comprehensive guidelines for social media and variant campaigns. Standardized grid margins, layout patterns, motion assets, and typographic hierarchy to ensure visual alignment.
2. GTM Variant Launch Kits
Created plug-and-play digital launch kits for new variants. These kits provided pre-configured layout templates, responsive master files, and copy blocks that allowed designers to crop and customize assets in minutes.
3. Structured SOPs & Governance
Implemented strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reviewer loop. Established clear feedback protocols and direct hand-offs between creative teams, agency managers, and brand stakeholders.
4. Mainline Upskilling
Conducted training workshops for content creators and client teams to ensure correct asset utilization and digital best practices.
Direct Results & Impact
The operational restructuring successfully streamlined regional marketing operations:
- • Standardized frameworks and templates cut variant-specific campaign turnaround times by 40%.
- • Attained 100% adoption of the new visual playbooks, ensuring a premium, unified digital presence across all media channels.
- • Set clear performance benchmarks and left robust documentation that allowed the brand team to maintain operational efficiency long after the 3-month consulting engagement.
